Varun Chakravarthy scales new peak with career-high rating in ICC T20I Rankings

After an outstanding performance in the current T20 series against South Africa, India spinner Varun Chakravarthy solidified his place at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Bowler Rankings on Wednesday, with a career-high rating.

Following his third successive two-wicket haul in a five-game home series, the 34-year-old Chakravarthy achieved a new best rating of 818 points.

The right-armer has taken six wickets in the series’ first three games. In the most recent encounter at Dharamsala, his stint of 2/11 from four frugal overs was crucial to India’s convincing seven-wicket victory.

In addition to moving into the top 10 for the best rating ever for T20I bowlers, Chakravarthy (818 rating points) now leads his nearest competitor, New Zealand seamer Jacob Duffy (699), by 119 points.

Following his Player of the Match exploits against the Proteas in the third game, left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh has moved up four spots to 16th overall in the rankings for T20I bowlers.

Lungi Ngidi (up 11 places to 44th), Marco Jansen (up 14 places to 25th), and Ottneil Baartman (up 68th from outside the top 100) all made progress for South Africa.

India now has two players in the top five among T20I hitters, with Tilak Varma moving up two spots to fourth overall following three respectable innings against South Africa.

While South Africa’s Aiden Markram (up eight ranks to 29th) and Quinton de Kock (up 14 spots to 43rd) made considerable progress after some respectable recent efforts, teammate Abhishek Sharma keeps a respectable gap at the top.

Despite not playing any international matches over the last week, Saim Ayub of Pakistan holds a slim lead at the top of the rankings for T20I all-rounders. Shivam Dube of India is the biggest mover on this list, moving up two spots to 16th.
