Tilak Varma on recovery path following successful surgery

After having surgery, Tilak Varma gave his fans an injury update and reassured them that he is on the road to recovery. After experiencing severe testicular pain while playing for Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Rajkot, the 23-year-old left-hander was admitted to the hospital, where he had a successful surgery. According to reports, he was released on Thursday morning and is doing well.

After returning to Hyderabad, Tilak will progressively advance to skill-based training, as a part of his rehabilitation plan, after his symptoms have totally subsided and the surgical wound has healed properly.

Taking to Instagram stories, Tilak posted an update, promising fans that he will be back on the field soon.

“Thank you for all the overwhelming love! Already on the road to recovery and I’ll be on the field sooner than you know it,” Tilak said on Instagram.

Tilak will miss the first three matches of the five-match Twenty20 International series against New Zealand, which begins on January 21, according to the most recent medical report. After evaluating his recuperation and his performance during the fitness and skill development phases, a decision will be made on his involvement in the last two games.

“He is ruled out of the first three T20Is against New Zealand. His availability for the remaining two matches will be assessed based on his progress during the return-to-training and skill phases,” read the statement from BCCI.

Tilak will be eligible for selection for the fourth Twenty20 International against the Blackcaps on January 28 in Vizag if he can recover in time. In 2025, Tilak was in excellent form with the bat for India, scoring 567 runs at an average of 47.25 in 20 games.

Last year, he struck four fifties, including one in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan, where he led India to victory.
