Team India touches down in Perth ahead of ODI series against Australia

For a three-match series against Australia beginning on October 19, prominent players of the Indian ODI team, including new captain Shubman Gill and star batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, arrived in Perth early on Thursday.

Along with a few support personnel, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy were among the other players to reach Perth following a delayed flight, in addition to Kohli, Rohit, and Gill.

After boarding an evening aircraft from Delhi on Wednesday, head coach Gautam Gambhir and the other coaching staff will join the team later in the day.

The series kicks off in Perth on Sunday, before moving to Adelaide on October 23 and Sydney on October 25. It will be followed by a five-match T20I series starting October 29.

Since this is Rohit and Kohli’s first international appearance following India’s Champions Trophy victory in March of this year, the one-dayers have created a lot of buzz. Particularly after Gill was promoted to ODI captaincy, there has been a great deal of conjecture regarding the future of the two mainstays.

Despite having retired from Test and T20 Internationals, both players are reportedly eager to play at least until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

In his media appearances since assuming control of the ODI team, Gill, who also captains the Test team, has endorsed the concept.

“The experience that both of them have and the matches that they have won for India, there are very few players who have won so many matches for India…players who have such skills and qualities with this experience are very few,” Gill said.

“There are very few players in the world who have so much skill, quality and experience. So, in that sense, yes,” he had stated regarding the duo’s possibilities for 2027 World Cup after the recent home victory over the West Indies in a Test series.
