Despite the fact that the hosts have already advanced to the Super 8 round of the competition, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak announced that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will not be rested for Wednesday’s final Group A encounter against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad.
In Sunday’s intense match against Pakistan, Bumrah was instrumental with the ball, delivering vital blows by dismissing skipper Salman Ali Agha and opener Saim Ayub. Pakistan was soundly defeated by 61 runs as a result of his quick breakthroughs.
Bumrah’s workload has been meticulously regulated by the BCCI’s sports science experts, who have taken breaks when team management felt it was necessary in order to maintain his fitness.
“Don’t think Bumrah will rest. We will decide later,” PTI quoted Kotak as saying during the pre-match press conference on Thursday.
Opening batsman Ishan Kishan was praised by Kotak for his demeanor, calling him a “confident” individual.
“He has always been a very confident player since his younger days. That mindset helps in T20 cricket,” Kotak spoke highly of Kishan, whose half-century was crucial to India’s 61-run victory over Pakistan.
India will not take the Netherlands lightly, Kotak added.
“From start of this World Cup, we have seen any team can beat any team. That is why every game is important.”
