T20 World Cup standoff escalates as Litton Das says Bangladesh is ‘uncertain’

In the midst of the protracted dispute over the team’s reluctance to play its games in India, Bangladesh skipper Litton Das stated he is “not sure” if his nation will compete in the T20 World Cup next month.

Following the removal of bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL on BCCI orders, Bangladesh has declined to visit India due to security concerns. Due to attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, there is currently tension in the two nations’ diplomatic relations.

“If we had known who our group opponents were (in the World Cup) or which country we were going to, that would have helped,” ESPNCricinfo quoted Das as saying on Tuesday.

“You have seen that we have announced the squad, but until now, no player knows which country we are going to or whom we will play against. Like me, the whole of Bangladesh is now uncertain.”

Bangladesh has requested that Sri Lanka be allotted their games. Das responded with a counter-question when pressed.

“Are you sure that we are going to the World Cup?. In reality, there is still a long time left before the World Cup, and we are not even sure whether we will go or not,” he said.

However, he avoided discussing the current high level of political tensions between Bangladesh and India and emphasized that players will adjust to any decision made by the Cricket Board.

“Many things in life are not ideal, but you have to accept them according to the situation. Playing so many matches in the BPL was not ideal either, but we still had to play,” he said.
