T20 World Cup: Quinton de Kock, David Miller slam ICC, say some teams ‘have more pull’

Due to difficulties brought on by the crisis among the US, Israel, and Iran, Quinton de Kock and David Miller have criticized the ICC for reportedly giving England’s travel plans precedence over those of South Africa and the West Indies. Both teams are still waiting to return home.

On Saturday night, England took a direct charter flight from Mumbai to London after losing to India in the second semifinal on Thursday. However, the West Indies and South Africa have not yet left the country.

While the West Indies were eliminated from the T20 World Cup after losing to India by 5 wickets at the Eden Gardens on Sunday, South Africa’s campaign came to an end after losing to New Zealand in the first semifinal in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Another charter flight is anticipated to take South Africa and the West Indies together from Kolkata. The flight is expected to depart on Sunday, though the precise departure time has not yet been confirmed.

“Funny @icc, we have heard nothing! Meanwhile, England are leaving before us somehow? @westindies and @proteasmencsa are just in the dark! Strange how different teams have more pull than others,” De Kock wrote on his Instagram story.

Miller, his teammate, also voiced frustration.

“Funny that England gets eliminated after WI & SA and gets on a charter back home tonight. While WI & SA still wait for answers in Kolkata,” he wrote in the comments section of one of ESPNcricinfo’s posts.

Darren Sammy, the current head coach and former captain of the West Indies who won two World Cups, too offered his thoughts.

“@davidmillersa12 a lil louder for those in the back to hear please sir.”

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also questioned the ICC’s choice to send England home before South Africa and the West Indies.

“So England got knocked out on Thurs, get a charter home today.. West Indies go out last Sunday and are still in Kolkata.. SA in the same position.. That’s where the power is all wrong…” Vaughan wrote on X.

“All teams in this situation should be treated the same.. just because you are more powerful at the ICC table shouldn’t count .. #JustSaying.”

Before the Caribbean side travels to Antigua, the West Indies and South Africa are probably going to fly first to Johannesburg.

On Sunday, a portion of the South African team, which includes players Keshav Maharaj, Jason Smith, and George Linde as well as members of the team management, will depart for New Zealand for a limited-overs tour that starts on March 15.

On Sunday, India will play New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
