T20 World Cup Final: Arshdeep Singh docked 15% match fee for hitting Daryl Mitchell with ball

For hurling the ball “aggressively and inappropriately” at New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad, India pacer Arshdeep Singh was fined 15% of his match fee.

Additionally, as this was Arshdeep’s first offense in a 24-month period, one demerit point has been added to his disciplinary record.

Article 2.9 of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match,” was found to have been broken by Arshdeep, according to an ICC media release on Tuesday.

The incident happened on Sunday in the eleventh over of New Zealand’s innings when Arshdeep fielded the ball on his follow-through and hurled it violently, striking the Black Caps vice-captain’s pads.

India became the first team to win three T20 World Cup titles after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs. Additionally, the Men in Blue were the first team to win the championship and successfully defend the title at home.

There was no need for a formal hearing because Arshdeep agreed to the sanction that Andy Pycroft of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees had suggested.

On-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, third umpire Allahuddien Paleker, and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock initiated the charge.

Level 1 infractions result in one or two demerit points, a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, and a maximum fine of fifty percent of the player’s match fee.
