T20 World Cup Final: Anti-drone, bomb squads deployed for India-New Zealand clash in Ahmedabad

An intricate security blanket blanketed the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as cricket fans began to flock the venue for Sunday’s India-New Zealand T20 World Cup final, ensuring the high-stakes match played out securely.

In order to reduce the possibility of a stampede, holding areas have been established close to Gates 1 and 2 for the first time during the game, according to officials.

Two people have already been taken into custody by the Ahmedabad police for allegedly black-marketing final tickets.

On Sunday at 7 p.m. IST, defending champions India will play New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final at the biggest cricket venue in the world. India, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, wants to make history by being the first side to defend the T20 World Cup.

“As part of bandobast, around 3,000 police personnel and around 1,000 home guards have been deployed. This time, we have created holding areas at Gate No. 1 and 2 near the main road to prevent any possibility of a stampede. We are implementing this for the first time during the match,” PTI quoted Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik as saying.

As part of the extensive security at the stadium, the police have also deployed eight bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) squads and three anti-drone devices, according to Malik.

In order to reduce traffic surrounding the stadium, he urged fans to take public transportation. To assist supporters in getting home after the game, transportation services would operate late into the night, according to Malik.

Additionally, special measures have been taken to guarantee the security and comfort of female spectators.

Special measures have also been implemented within the stadium to keep spectators out of the playing area during the game.

As part of the security measures at the location, a number of senior officers, including a joint commissioner of police and twelve deputy commissioners of police, will remain present there, according to Malik.
