Following Team India’s recent T20 World Cup victory over New Zealand by an overwhelming 96 runs, West Indies icon Viv Richards remarked that India has elevated its white ball cricket to a new level.
As part of his new position as the official Envoy of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which will take place in his native Antigua and Barbuda in November, the legendary West Indies cricketer was in London this week.
In an interview with PTI at the Commonwealth’s Marlborough House headquarters, Richards discussed his thoughts on the passion for cricket throughout the Commonwealth and his aspirations to use his new position as ambassador to promote peace.
“India have taken the game, in my opinion, to a different level, more so in the limited overs, the ODIs, the T20s. It is a great present for the fans because of the love and the passion that they show for the game in itself. I just think the result would have been the right result because of that love and passion and the country that it is played in,” Richards lavished the “Men in Blue” with adulation.
