T20 World Cup: Big boost for South Africa as David Miller gets medical clearance

Senior South Africa batter David Miller was given medical clearance on Saturday to join the national team for the T20 World Cup, which starts on February 7.

Miller, who strained his muscles during the SA20 event, will travel to Mumbai with the South African team on Sunday, according to Cricket South Africa.

“Proteas Men’s batter David Miller has been medically cleared for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka,” CSA said in a social media post.

“Miller successfully underwent a fitness test this week following an adductor muscle strain sustained while playing for Paarl Royals during the SA20.”

“He will join the squad on Sunday when they depart for Mumbai from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg,” CSA added.

Last edition’s runner-up South Africa are grouped in Group D along with New Zealand, Afghanistan, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

On February 4, South Africa will play a warm-up match against India at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. On February 9, they will play their tournament opener against Canada in Ahmedabad.
