The ICC T20 World Cup opener and final will take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium in 2026, which is expected to begin on February 7 and end on March 8. Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium has been selected to host one of the semifinals.
In the event that India and Pakistan face off in the semi-finals, they will play in Colombo, while the second semi-final would take place in Mumbai.
The competition will take place in seven locations across the two nations, with Sri Lanka serving as co-hosts. The Indian leg is expected to take place in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, while Sri Lanka will use three locations. It is understood that the host venues will be Pallekele, one of Dambulla and Hambantota, and Premadasa Stadium.
Venues for the warm-up games are unclear, but Bengaluru is likely to receive a small number of them. The Indian board has not yet decided whether to play in Chinnaswamy Stadium or hold warm-up matches at the Centre of Excellence (CoE).
The Indian squad is expected to play at the four major venues in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai.
The ICC has informed the BCCI that Sri Lanka will play in Colombo if it advances to the semi-finals. Additionally, the tournament summit match will take place at a neutral venue if Pakistan advances to the final.
The BCCI has clarified that if India are to face Pakistan, the match will be held in Sri Lanka as per the agreement signed earlier. After India declined to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy, both boards reached an understanding to play their matches at neutral venues for ICC and continental tournaments. The BCCI has already submitted the proposed schedule to the ICC.
