Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was on Sunday appointed head coach of SA20 franchise Pretoria Capitals ahead of the 2026 season, marking his first stint in charge of a team as a coach.
Ganguly, a former BCCI chief as well, will take over from former England batsman Jonathan Trott, who announced his resignation on Saturday.
โThe Prince is all set to bring a royal flair to the Capitals camp! We are ecstatic to announce Sourav Ganguly as our new head coach,โ the Centurion-based franchise wrote on their social media handles.
This will be Gangulyโs first assignment as head coach of a cricket team. He had earlier served as team director of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals between 2018 and 2019, a role he relinquished after taking over as BCCI president.
JSW Sports, a co-owner of Delhi Capitals, is the owner of Pretoria Capitals.
Last year, Ganguly was named director of cricket at JSW.
Trott was named head coach prior to the 2025 SA20 season, but the side only managed two victories from ten group games and finished sixth in the six-team T20 league standings, preventing them from making it to the knockout stages.
โJonathan Trott, forever grateful for your leadership and unwavering dedication to the team. All the best on your next adventure! Once a Capital, always a Capital!โ Pretoria Capitals wrote on its social media handles on Saturday.
