India batting star Smriti Mandhana removed social media posts about her pre-wedding festivities with music composer Palash Muchhal after her father’s hospitalization forced an indefinite postponement of the main ceremony.
Smriti and Palash were scheduled to get married on November 23 in her hometown of Sangli, Maharashtra, but the event was postponed after the cricketer’s father was admitted to the hospital following a heart-related medical emergency.
However, after popular social media posts about the engagement and other festivities vanished from Smriti’s page, rumors about the couple’s relationship gained momentum.
The engagement announcement, which had Smriti dancing to the song “Samjho ho hi gaya” from “Lage Raho Munnabhai” alongside a few of her India colleagues, can no longer be seen on her page.
The post, originally shared by her teammate and close friend Jemimah Rodrigues, has also disappeared from Rodrigues’ Instagram — despite having garnered over a million likes.
In an attempt to quell rumors, Muchhal’s sister Palak, a playback singer, shared a brief statement stating that the bride-to-be’s father’s health was the only reason the wedding was delayed.
“Due to Smriti’s father’s health, Smriti and Palash’s wedding has been put on hold. We request you all to respect the privacy of both families during this sensitive time,” she stated on Monday.
The cricketer and her fiancé have not yet addressed the matter.
