Smriti Mandhana’s half-century propels her back to top spot in ICC ODI rankings

After hitting a half-century in a losing effort against Australia, Indian top-order batter Smriti Mandhana regained her top spot in the most recent ICC ODI ranking for women hitters released on Tuesday.

In the first game of the three-match series in Mullanpur, Mandhana scored 58 off 63 balls, but her effort went in vain as Australia easily overhauled the target to take a 1-0 lead.

Mandhana will feel more confident heading into the Women’s Cricket World Cup, which begins on September 30, thanks to her No. 1 ranking.

Mandhana’s half-century was sufficient to earn her seven rating points and put her four points ahead of England’s mainstay Nat Sciver-Brunt, who fell to second place.

With 735 rating points, Mandhana is ahead of Sciver-Brunt, who has 731 rating points.

Mandhana was ranked as the top ODI batter for the first time in 2019 and has already held the top spot twice in 2025.

India’s top-order batter Harleen Deol is currently ranked 43rd following a strong 54 against Australia, while opener Pratika Rawal, who hit 64, advanced four spots to 42nd.

Left-handed mainstay Beth Mooney moved up three spots to fifth place for Australia after her undefeated 77, while Annabel Sutherland and Phoebe Litchfield shared 25th place after half-centuries in their team’s eight-wicket victory.

In the ODI bowling rankings, pacer Kim Garth and spinner Alana King have risen one position each to their highest-ever positions of fourth and fifth.

England spinner Sophie Ecclestone remained the top-ranked bowler, and India’s Sneh Rana, who grabbed a wicket in the opening ODI, rose five spots to 13th.
