Smriti Mandhana, the vice-captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, said on Sunday that her marriage to music composer Palash Muchhal has been “called off,” putting an end to weeks of rumors about her personal life.
The star batter has asked supporters and the public to respect both families’ right to privacy.
One of the most well-known female cricketers in India, Smriti, made her first public remarks on social media following a month of growing rumors about her personal life.
“I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same,” she wrote.
Smriti’s father, Shriniwas, had to be hospitalized owing to a heart condition, so the November 23 wedding was postponed.
“Over the past few weeks, there has been plenty of speculation around my life, and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time,” she said on Instagram.
Smriti, who describes herself as a “very private person,” stated that she felt forced to speak in order to correct the record. She asked supporters and the general public to “respect the privacy of both families” and give them “space to process and move on.”
Smriti, who is getting ready for India’s next international campaign, stated that cricket is still her top priority.
“I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all and for me that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible,” she said.
Days after singer Palak Muchhal discussed the matter, the development took place.
“I think the families have been through a very tough time. Like you just said, I would just want to repeat that we would like to believe in positivity at this time. We would like to spread positivity as much as we can. We are also trying to stay strong,” she had said.
Both remarks came in the context of escalating social media debates and unconfirmed rumors, which prompted public figures to intervene to quell speculation.
For almost ten years, Smriti, 28, has been a key player in Indian women’s cricket, and her inclusion in the batting lineup has been essential in all formats.
The left-hander reaffirmed that her professional obligations continue to be her top priority as per India’s hectic 2026 schedule.
“Thank you for all your support. It’s time to move forward,” her note concluded.
