After India’s 0-2 series loss to South Africa, captain Shubman Gill, who was sidelined for the second Test owing to a neck injury, spoke in a defiant tone of togetherness and commitment, stating that the team would “rise stronger” despite the setback.
South Africa accomplished a clean sweep, thrashing the hosts by 408 runs in the second Test at Guwahati—their first series victory on Indian soil in 25 years—and the two-Test series ended in humiliation for India.
In the first Test, South Africa defeated India by 30 runs in three days in Kolkata.
With supporters jeering coach Gautam Gambhir, the defeat sparked intense criticism and debate about the team’s play and leadership.
“Calm seas don’t teach you how to steer, it’s the storm that forges steady hands. We’ll continue to believe in each other, fight for each other, and move forward – rising stronger,” Gill wrote in ‘X’ on Wednesday.
After experiencing a neck spasm during India’s opening innings in the Eden Test, Gill had retired hurt on four. After being admitted to the hospital, he was unable to play the remainder of the game. On the eve of the Test, Gill was freed after traveling to Guwahati.
