Even though Australian cricketers made significant progress after thrashing South Africa in the most recent series decider in Mackay, Indian batting mainstays Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma remained at the top of the rankings for ODI batters, with Virat Kohli at number four.
The top two spots were occupied by Gill (784 rating points) and Rohit (756), with Pakistan’s Babar Azam (739 rating points) completing the top three. Kohli has 736 points.
Although the Indians haven’t played in ODIs recently, Kuldeep Yadav (650) and Ravindra Jadeja (616) are still ranked third and ninth, respectively, in the most current bowlers’ ODI rankings.
Both Rohit and Kohli are still playing in the ODI format even though they have retired from T20I and Test cricket.
Both Rohit and Kohli were instrumental in India’s championship campaign during the ICC Champions Trophy in the United Arab Emirates in February 2025, when they last played one-day international matches.
In the 50-over match at Mackay, Australia compiled a commanding 431/2, with three of its batsmen—Travis Head (142), Mitch Marsh (100), and Cameron Green (118 not out)—cashing in with a hundred.
As a result, all three improved their rankings: Head moved up one spot to tie for 11th place, Marsh jumped four spots to 44th, and Green jumped 40 spots to 78th.
Australian teammate Josh Inglis also gained ground on the list. After his 87-run innings in the second game of the series against the Proteas, the right-hander moved up 23 spots to 64th place.
With the conclusion of the South Africa vs Australia series, Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana joined fellow tweaker Keshav Maharaj at the top of the ODI bowlers rankings with 671 rating points, making the rivalry more fierce at the top.
Even though the Sri Lankan spinner didn’t play during the week, Maharaj lost ground after receiving numbers of 1/57 in the series decider, and his rating fell to even with Theekshana.
After taking a series-high seven wickets in the three matches against Australia, Lungi Ngidi, a speedster from South Africa, moved up six spots to 28th position in the ODI bowlers’ rankings.
After some respectable performances during the series with the Proteas, Australia’s Sean Abbott (up nine ranks to joint 48th) and Nathan Ellis (up 21 spots to 65th) also gained ground on the list.
