Due to his ongoing recuperation from illness at his Chandigarh residence, India’s Test captain Shubman Gill will reportedly not be participating in the Duleep Trophy 2025, which is set to start on Thursday, August 28 at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru.
Gill, who was selected as the North Zone team’s captain, recently had a medical evaluation by team physiotherapists, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) received the results, according to a report in Cricbuzz.
Vice-captain Ankit Kumar is anticipated to assume leadership responsibilities in Gill’s absence, and Shubham Rohilla has been selected to replace him in the squad.
Prior to departing for their national duties in the United Arab Emirates, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, both members of India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, will only play in the opening game versus East Zone. Their replacements have been identified as Anuj Thakral and Gurnoor Brar.

India, led by new captain Suryakumar Yadav, will begin their title defence against the UAE in Dubai. The much-anticipated clash with Pakistan follows on September 14 at the same venue, before they round off the group stage against Oman on September 19 at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
