India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup at home, the first to win it twice in a row, and the first to win the trophy three times. They came into the tournament as the favorites and performed well. Throughout their campaign, Shivam Dube was frequently overlooked unless you looked closely enough, but his efforts kept the chases alive, the innings moving, and the totals competitive.
In nine innings during the competition, Dube scored 235 runs at a strike rate of 169.06 and an average of 39.16. Additionally, he took five wickets for India. Throughout the competition, he has served as the reigning champions’ crisis man.
In Sunday’s final over of the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand, he once again produced his massive hits. In just eight balls, Dube hammered an undefeated 26. In the last over, he smashed James Neesham for 24 runs to take India’s score to 255/5.
Dube stated that hitting big sixes has always been his role and that he is confident he will perform when given the opportunity. He said that the Indian team’s supporters are the true heroes and thanked them for their steadfast love and prayers.
On his role, Dube said, “It was always there to hit some big sixes. That was my role since the first day of this tournament. Sometimes it happens. Some other batsmen are there when they go up. But yes, I always back myself and think that whenever I get the opportunity, I will hit some sixes.”
When asked about his bowling, Dube said, “I’ve developed a lot, but yeah, I have not bowled this tournament. But yes, I’m going to come better next time.”
On India’s victory celebrations, Dube said, “Definitely, it’s one of the biggest days today, and the crowd was amazing. This tournament belongs to the supporters of the Indian cricket team. The prayers, and I think we have got that love which supported us a lot in the bad situations. I think all credit goes to all the Indian cricket team supporters.”
