The Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals have finalized a significant trade involving their marquee players. Sanju Samson will join the Chennai Super Kings in the deal, while Ravindra Jadeja will join the Rajasthan Royals, according to a Cricbuzz report.
As per the deal information, CSK has released Jadeja, who is valued at Rs 18 crore, and Sam Curran, who is priced at Rs 2.4 crore. At Rs 18 crore, Samson’s league fee is equal to Jadeja’s. This transaction is important since Jadeja is India’s best all-around player.
The deal has been accepted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following the resolution of preliminary technical difficulties pertaining to foreign player slots in the Royals’ squad.
In 2012, Jadeja made a covert bid to join CSK. He demonstrated his value by winning multiple games, including a standout effort in the 2023 final in which he struck a six and a four off the final two balls. An unforgettable IPL moment was his celebration with Dhoni following those shots.
The move is in everyone’s best interests, according to the players’ prior discussions. Jadeja, 36, faces uncertainty about his ODI future for India after retiring from T20 internationals.
The inclusion of Noor Ahmad in the team and the fact that Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium is no longer as spin-friendly were factors taken into account by CSK. Jadeja and CSK have parted ways amicably this time, unlike earlier conflicts during his temporary captaincy in 2022.
Jadeja has scored 2000 runs and taken over 140 wickets in 185 IPL games at an economy rate of less than eight. Additionally, he participated in 14 T20 Champions League games for the team.
Jadeja rejoins the Rajasthan Royals, where he spent his first two IPL seasons prior to being banned for a year in 2010 due to alleged transfer talks with another franchise. He is anticipated to be promoted to senior player status at his new team, however captaincy is not assured.
Samson was the target of CSK’s three-year pursuit of an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman for their top order. Several IPL teams expressed interest in Samson prior to signing this contract with CSK.
