Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar denied rumors on Thursday that he could be the future president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), calling the discussions “unfounded” according to his management firm.
To dispel rumors that he may succeed Roger Binny, whose term expired in July after he reached 70, the 52-year-old’s management firm released the statement on his behalf.
“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India,” read a statement from the company.
“We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations,” it added.
On September 28, the Annual General Meeting of the richest cricket board in the world is scheduled to hold its elections.
Binny was appointed BCCI president in October 2022, with the Board’s constitution setting an age limit of 70 for the role.
The AGM will also see the appointment of the BCCI ombudsman, ethics officer, and the Board’s representative to the ICC.
