Sachin Tendulkar parallel sparks buzz as BCCI urged to fast-track Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old batting star from Bihar, has received the ultimate cricket accolade from Shashi Tharoor, who likened him to the great Sachin Tendulkar.

The teenage prodigy should be immediately added to the Indian team, Tharoor urged the BCCI.

”The last time a fourteen-year-old showed such prodigious cricketing talent, it was Sachin Tendulkar — and we all know what became of him. What are waiting for? Vaibhav Suryavanshi for India!” Tharoor posted on X.

Without holding back, the Congress MP tagged Ajit Agarkar, Sachin Tendulkar, the BCCI, and coach Gautam Gambhir.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy Plate League match against Arunachal Pradesh in Ranchi on Wednesday, Suryavanshi became the youngest player in men’s List A cricket history to score a century.

At the age of 14 years and 272 days, Suryavanshi scored his maiden senior cricket non-T20I century off just 36 deliveries. After making his List A debut against Madhya Pradesh in December 2025, this was the teenager’s seventh match.

Suryavanshi took just 11 more deliveries to hit the three-figure mark after smashing his way to fifty off 25 balls.

After Anmolpreet Singh’s 35-ball century against Arunachal Pradesh in 2024, Suryavanshi also achieved the second-fastest List A century by an Indian. However, shortly after, Sakibul Gani, his teammate and captain of Bihar, hit the fastest-ever 32-ball century by an Indian in List A cricket, propelling Bihar to a huge world record List A total of 574/6 in their 50 overs.

In men’s List A cricket, Suryavanshi also broke A B de Villiers’ record for the fastest 150. He surpassed de Villiers’ 64-ball milestone against the West Indies in 2015 by reaching 150 runs in 59 deliveries.

Suryavanshi fell after smashing 16 fours and 15 sixes at an incredible strike rate of 226.19, scoring 190 runs off 84 deliveries.

Suryavanshi became the youngest Indian hitter to score a fifty in List A cricket last year when he scored 71 off just 42 balls for Bihar against Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, his first half-century in senior List A cricket.

Suryavanshi set a new record as the youngest player to score a century in the history of the domestic T20 event earlier this month when he hit an undefeated 108 off 61 balls for Bihar against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

At the Under-19 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates earlier this month, Suryavanshi also blasted a 95-ball 171. The left-handed batter missed Ambati Rayudu’s long-standing India record in youth one-dayers—177 against England at Taunton back in 2002—by just six runs during that knock.

Suryavanshi averages 51.13 in 15 youth ODIs, scoring two hundreds and three half-centuries at a remarkable strike rate of 158.79.
