Rs 131 crore windfall for Team India after historic T20 World Cup victory

The BCCI on Tuesday announced a cash reward of Rs 131 crore for Team India after they won their third T20 World Cup title in Ahmedabad on March 8.

The Suryakumar Yadav-led team thrashed New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 to become the first side to win the trophy for the third time. India also became the first team to win at home.

The cash award by BCCI would cover the 15 players, coaching staff and other support staff. According to sources, the players would have the bigger chunk of the award while the amont for the support staff amount will be decided as per hierarchy.

There is a raise of Rs 6 crore to the cash award from last time’s Rs 125 crore that Rohit Sharma’s team received in 2024 after they won the T20 World Cup in Barbados.

“The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement.

India had a terrific run in the tournament barring that shock defeat to South Africa in a Super Eight clash. After that there was no stopping the hosts as they beat Zimbabwe, West Indies in the Super Eight before they beat England in the semis and New Zealand in the final.

India also received cash award for the ICC, cricket’s top body, where they received a total of USD 3 million, which would convert to approximately Rs 27.48 crore in Indian currency.

According to reports, Team India also received performance-based bonuses of around USD 31,154 (INR 28.6 lakh) for each match they won during the group and Super Eight stages of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
