Rohit Sharma leaves fans guessing with cryptic ‘signing off’ post

Rohit Sharma ignited social media with a cryptic post on Sunday, amid speculation about his international future and following the conclusion of the three-match ODI series Down Under.

Rohit, who showcased his skills with a sublime century in the last ODI in Sydney, posted a photo of himself entering the departure zone at Sydney airport on his official ‘X’ account, captioning it: “One last time, signing off from Sydney.”

The post stoked speculation that the aggressive opener may have played his final match for India on Australian soil, as it came during a time of uncertainty regarding his ODI career.

Rohit, who scored a fine 73 off 97 balls in his team’s losing cause in the second ODI, has already retired from Test and T20I formats.

After guiding India to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, he ended his T20I career and also retired from Test cricket earlier this year.

For both Rohit and his veteran partner Virat Kohli, one-dayers is the sole remaining active international format.

As there will be no ODI series in Australia over the next two years, it is hard to imagine that the 38-year-old Mumbaikar will don the India jersey Down Under again.

Rohit, who has a total of 11,370 ODI runs across 268 innings, first visited Australia for the CB Series in the 2007-08 season.
