Ritika strikes gold as India finish fourth at Asian U22 Boxing Championships

India finished a respectable fourth overall in the Under-22 division of the Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok on Monday, with Ritika winning gold in the women’s 80+kg division.

While the U19 team brought home a total of 14 medals, including three gold, seven silver, and four bronze, the Indian U-22 team finished their campaign with 13 medals.

The U-19 team finished the competition in second place overall thanks to their efforts.

Ritika, however, won the day’s only gold in the women’s 80+kg final, defeating Kazakhstan’s Assel Toktassyn by maintaining her poise under pressure.

Ritika defeated a formidable boxer by combining aggression and caution to deliver some devastating blows, winning India’s fourth gold medal.

In the morning session, Priya’s fierce battle against Yu Tian of China in the 60kg final ended in a close 2:3 loss, while Yatri Patel settled for a silver after losing to Khumorabonu Mamajonova of Uzbekistan in the women’s 57kg.

Neeraj lost against Shavkatjon Boltaev of Uzbekistan in the men’s 75kg final later in the day.

Later, with Ishan Kataria losing to Khalimjon Mamasoliev of Uzbekistan in the 90+kg gold medal match, both Indian boxers settled for silver.
