Rishabh Pant eyeing Ranji Trophy return as comeback gathers pace: Report

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is eager to return to red-ball cricket after suffering an injury. Pant is keen to return to the Ranji Trophy after breaking his foot during the five-Test tour of England. The Indian Cricket Board’s medical team may give Pant the all-clear to play by October 10, according to a report in the Times of India on Monday.

On July 24, Rishabh Pant suffered a foot fracture during the Manchester Test match against England. Pant was whacked on his right foot while trying to reverse sweep a delivery from Chris Woakes and had to withdraw right away due to injury.

When the Indian team needed him most, Pant came out to bat again even though scans showed that the batter had fractured his toe. However, following that Test match, the batter was ruled out from the remainder of the series.

The wicketkeeper’s foot was placed in a cast but did not require surgery. Since September, when he started mild training and has been progressing nicely.

“As of now, there is a likelihood he could be cleared by October 10. An assessment is due this week. It has been a long recovery for him. The BCCI medical team doesn’t want to take any chances with him,” a BCCI official told TOI.

The report added that Pant has confirmed that he will be available for Ranji matches starting on October 25. However, the BCCI medical staff, who are always keeping an eye on the cricketer, will take the final call.

According to a Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) official, Pant, who was not named in India’s ODI and T20I squads for the Australia tour, will be leading the Delhi team in the red-ball competition if he participates in the Ranji Trophy.
