Rinku Singh’s father dies after cancer battle, cricketer rushes home

Rinku Singh’s father, Khachandra Singh, passed away on Friday due to cancer. He was undergoing treatment at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida but earlier this week his condition deteriorated and he was put on ventilator support.

Rinku had rushed to visit his father before India’s Super Eight match against Zimbabwe on Thursday. The left-handed batter had rejoined the camp on February 25 for the must-win match in Chennai but sat out with Sanju Samson replacing him in the playing XI.

According to media reports, the 28-year-old after learning about his father’s demise has travelled to Aligarh to be with his family. He is expected to rejoin the team before India’s must-win Super Eight clash against the West Indies.

Former India offspinner Harbhajan Singh took to social media and wrote that Rinku remains committed to his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup while extending condolences to his family.

Rinku’s father, who worked as an LPG cylinder deliveryman in Aligarh, played a key role in shaping Rinku’s career as a cricketer despite the family’s financial struggle.

However, there is uncertainty over Rinku’s availability for the remainder of the tournament with India taking on the West Indies on Sunday in a virtual quarterfinal to make it to the semis of the T20 World Cup. As of now there is no official update from the BCCI or the team management regarding his participation.
