India batter Rinku Singh did not anticipate being chosen for the 2025 Asia Cup team. On the sidelines of the UP T20 League, Rinku told RevSportz that his recent fall in form in both local and international cricket left him unsure about his selection.
Rinku achieved his first T20 hundred after being selected for the Indian team. The batter helped his team, the Meerut Mavericks, reach a 168-run target by finding his form at the right moment. Rinku’s knock came when Meerut was struggling after losing four consecutive wickets in the opening eight overs of the match.
“I got motivated after I saw my name on the Asia Cup list. I did not do well last year, and I felt that it was possible that I would get left out. But the selectors showed trust in me and selected me and that gave me a confidence boost. The innings that I played in the UP T20 League has boosted my confidence and I would take it there,” Rinku Singh said.
According to the expert finisher, his ability to bowl one or two overs throughout a match may have aided in his selection. According to Rinku, the selection committee is now favoring players with a variety of skills.
“Bowling is very important today. The selectors want you to have multiple roles in the team. If you cannot affect the game by bat, do it with the ball,” Rinku said.
Rinku also discussed his involvement with the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Indian team. He suggested that being highly praised for his skills in the match’s last four overs may have typecast him. Rinku claimed that although he could bat considerably higher in the order, he was prepared to play any role that was assigned to him.
“I batted at No. 5 in 2023. I do not feel good when I bat at No. 7 and No. 8. But it is the team’s need, so you have to perform in that role. I have played 33 T20I matches for the Indian team and I have scored 3 fifties. I can bat everywhere, not just in the finisher’s role,” Rinku said.
Rinku hammered an incredible 108* off just 48 balls in the most recent UP T20 League encounter. During his innings, the left-hander blasted eight sixes and seven boundaries. In the 18th and 19th overs, he took apart Abdul Rehman and Vasu Vats, respectively, with five of the eight sixes coming off his final six balls.
Perhaps it came at the perfect moment, considering this was Rinku Singh’s first T20 hundred of his career. Following a run of subpar performances recently, the batter was in danger of being left out of the Indian playing XI for the Asia Cup.
