Put a price on your wicket’: Former India cricketer’s blunt advice for Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma’s form would be a big concern with India heading into the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026. India are scheduled to clash with England in Mumbai on Thursday in the second semifinal of the tournament.

Abhishek has scored 80 runs in the T20 World Cup 2026 in six matches, which includes three successive ducks and just one half-century. In India’s must-win game against West Indies on Sunday, the opener had an opportunity to shine while the hosts were chasing a huge target of 196 runs. But he scored 10 off 11 balls.

Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary criticised Abhishek and said the opener has to put a price on his wicket before looking to play the big shots.

“When you don’t put a price on your wicket, then you will play loose shots like that,” Tiwary told Cricbuzz.

“Abhishek has already become a star in such a short time, but if he wants to be a superstar, he has to win games for the team. There is so much competition, so many match winners, so he has to be ahead of them,” he added.

“The game against West Indies was a good opportunity for him. He dropped two catches as well. He has to cultivate the mindset where he has to decide which balls to go for and which not,” Tiwary also said.

Meanwhile, Irfan Pathan also expressed concerns for a struggling Abhishek and the former India allrounder feels the world No. 1 T20I batter needs to make some technical adjustments.

“One concern is Abhishek Sharma’s form again. After scoring that fifty, it felt like he would continue making runs, but when he went for that shot, his back knee was bent too much, and his body weight was falling backwards.

“Ideally, more weight should have been on the front foot, as that suits him better. He will need to pay attention to that,” Pathan said on his YouTube channel.
