PSL in turmoil as PCB policy leaves employees in limbo

The Pakistan Cricket Board’s policy on its employees, including as former captain and selector Sarfaraz Ahmed and women’s team mentor Wahab Riaz, who work for Pakistan Super League clubs, is a source of confusion.

When questioned about the board’s stance during their Sunday press conference, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and PSL CEO Salman Naseer were unable to provide a definitive response.

“What I can say is that those who are full-time employees cannot join the PSL in any capacity, but those who are employed part-time are permitted to do so,” PTI quoted Naqvi as saying.

The uncertainty surrounding the status of those personnel on contracts—which includes a number of former international players employed in various roles as coaches, selectors, curators, or at the National Cricket Academy—was further exacerbated by Naqvi’s reaction.

Additionally, hired workers in Sarfaraz and Riaz, who play important roles in the Quetta Gladiators franchise, are unclear. Riaz is the bowling coach, and Sarfaraz is the director of cricket.

Asad Shafiq, Shahid Anwar, Ijaz Ahmed junior, and former captain Misbah-ul-Haq are also board members.

“The PCB should be clear (about) what they mean by full-time employees, because contracted employees should also be in this category,” a franchise official said.
