KKR break silence on Finn Allen dismissal, call it ‘blunder’ after last-ball loss

IPL 2026 dished out yet another thrilling match for second consecutive day with Lucknow Super Giants clinching win over Kolkata Knight Riders off the last ball. LSG needing seven runs off the last two balls, Mukul Choudhary hit a six of the fifth ball before taking a single off the last ball to gun down the target of 182 runs.

However, KKR rued the controversial dismissal of their opener Finn Allen who was caight at third man by Digvesh Rathi. The third umpire ruled it out despite video review of one angle showed his feet touch the boundary rope.

KKR’s Rovman Powell attending the post-match press conference called the decision an umpiring “blunder”, and questioned why the third umpire didn’t review multiple angle for clarity.

“Definitely (more angles should have been looked at). We talked about that when he came off. We thought we had seen in the IPL that the umpires have gone upstairs for lesser things, and that are not as close as that. Maybe it was a blunder on their part, but we’re not going to look into that and say that is what cost us two points tonight,” Rovman said in the post-match press conference.

If Allen had got a six on that ball instead of getting out, KKR would have added six more runs to their total. That could have changed the result and possibly given them the win.

KKR seemed to be in control when LSG needed 30 runs from the last two overs. But that’s when Mukul turned the game around with an incredible match-winning effort.

“It’s very disappointing. You want to make Kolkata, you want to make Eden Gardens as your fortress. It’s your home, it’s your home where you have your fans behind you. So it always feels good to win at home. But, unfortunately, tonight we weren’t able to,” said Powell.

“A lot of credit has to be given to the boys. I think after scoring 181, we believed that we could have won the game. But credit to the youngster, he batted really well,” he added.

This loss means KKR are still searching for their first win in IPL 2026. They have now lost three matches, while one game was washed out due to rain.
