Kane Williamson rejoined New Zealand’s 14-man Test team, which was selected on Monday to play a three-match series against the West Indies next month.
The 35-year-old former captain, who holds the record for Test runs scored by New Zealand, withdrew from T20 internationals earlier this year and missed the two-Test series that took place in Zimbabwe in July and August.
“Kane’s ability on the field speaks for itself and it will be great to have his skills as well as his leadership back in the Test group,” head coach Rob Walter said.
After sustaining a minor groin injury during the first one-day international match against the West Indies eight days ago, all-rounder Daryl Mitchell was included and is anticipated to be fit.
Jacob Duffy, who earned his first Test cap in the same match, and pace bowler Zak Foulkes, who made his debut in the second Test against Zimbabwe with match figures of 9-75, are part of the pace attack.
After winning player of the match twice in the most recent one-day international series against England, Blair Tickner makes his Test team comeback for the first time since 2023.
The first Test will start in Christchurch on December 2. On December 10, the series travels to Wellington, and on December 18, the final Test takes place at Mount Maunganui.
