Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani will face legal action from the PCB for signing a contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders of the Indian Premier League while rescinding his agreement with Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League.
The Zimbabwean, who just signed a deal with the Knight Riders to replace Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who was fired by the team per BCCI orders, was the target of a lawsuit, according to a trustworthy source within the board on Saturday.
“Since the IPL and PSL are now clashing after being held in the same window since last year we want to give a clear message to players that once they commit to playing in the PSL they can’t just go and breach their contract and sign a new one with any franchise in the IPL,” PTI quoted the source as saying.
Muzarabani was brought in by Islamabad United to replace West Indian fast bowler Shamar Joseph.
Corbin Bosch of South Africa signed a PSL contract with Peshawar Zalmi last year, but he later joined the Mumbai Indians as an injury substitute. After receiving a one-season PSL ban, Bosch apologized to the PCB, which filed a lawsuit against him and demanded damages.
Kusal Mendis of Sri Lanka and Mitchel Owen of Australia both participated in a few PSL games for Peshawar Zalmi before joining the IPL following the PSL’s brief suspension due to the conflict between Pakistan and India in May last year.
