IPL 2026: Shubman Gill reveals exact moment GT felt victory was possible

Gujarat Titans pulled off a thrilling one-run win against Delhi Capitals in an IPL match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. A DC win looked definite before David Miller refused a single off Prasidh Krishna’s penultimate delivery of the 20th over, which could have tied the score.

Now, with two runs required off the final delivery, GT skipper Shubman Gill felt that they could pull off a victory.

The final ball from Prasidh was a slow bouncer which Miller missed, and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler’s throw found a diving Kuldeep Yadav short of his ground. There was more drama as the delivery was reviewed for wide, but it turned out to be a fair delivery as GT sealed the match.

“Definitely, all three games we played had gone till the last over but very pleased to got over the line. (When Miller didn’t take a single), I thought, we had a chance to win,” Gill said after the match.

On the choice of final delivery, Gill said the option of slower delivery was a perfect choice looking at the track.

“We decided whether to go for yorker or slower but given the wicket how it played, slower one would be difficult to hit.”

Gill also felt that the total of 210 on the track was a good one. “210 on this wicket was 10-15 runs above par and if we bowl well, we can win this,” he said.

Put in to bat, the Titans scored 210 for 4, with Gill scored 70 while Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar also chipped in with fluent fifties.

Delhi got off to a flyer in the chase, courtesy Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul. But quick wickets of Nissanka (41), Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi and Axar Patel pulled things back for Delhi.

However, Rahul and Miller kept Delhi in the hunt before the wicketkeeper-batter fell on 92. With Miller (41*) at the crease, Delhi looked in control before Prasidh bowling the 20th over held his nerve to give GT their first win of the season.
