The Gujarat Titans announced on Tuesday that former Australian great Matthew Hayden would be their batting coach for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Hayden, a two-time World Cup winner, scored over 15,000 international runs while playing for Australia in 273 international games across formats. He was known for his fiery style of play.
“Good batting applies pressure. Great batting owns the game. That’s the standard we want to set at Gujarat Titans,” Hayden said in a statement.
Hayden participated in 32 IPL games for the Chennai Super Kings, helping them win the championship in 2010. In 2009, after scoring 572 runs in about 12 games, he was also awarded the Orange Cap.
“His (Matthew’s) experience at the highest level, coupled with his ability to mentor emerging talent, will be instrumental in shaping our batting identity for the seasons ahead,” Gujarat Titans Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki added.
According to information obtained, Hayden will replace fellow Australian Matthew Wade, who served as an assistant coach in the 2025 edition.
The 2026 Indian Premier League will start on March 28.
