IPL 2026 Auction: Cameron Green sold to KKR for a record sum of Rs 25.20 crore

With a winning bid of Rs 25.20 crore at the mini-auction on Tuesday, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green became the most costly foreign acquisition in Indian Premier League history.

Former champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) eventually signed Green for the 2026 edition when his name appeared in the first group of players in the Abu Dhabi auction, sparking a bidding war.

The previous international record of Rs 24.75 crore paid by KKR in the 2024 auction for Mitchell Starc was surpassed by the large sum for Green.

A new “maximum fee” clause has set Green’s remuneration at Rs 18 crores, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) receiving the remaining amount.

After Rishabh Pant (Rs 27 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (Rs 26.75 crores) of India, Green becomes the third most expensive player in the IPL.

In 29 IPL games for the Mumbai Indians and the reigning winners Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Green, 26, has amassed 707 runs.

Due to a back ailment, he was unable to participate in the 2025 edition, although he is presently participating in the Ashes against England.

A few surprises occurred during the auction, like as the unsold status of England all-rounder Liam Livingstone and Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk. If the franchises want it, their names might re-emerge later in the auction.
