Injury blow for South Africa as Kagiso Rabada ruled out of 2nd Test against India

Due to a rib injury sustained during a training session prior to the series opener, South Africa pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada will not play in the second Test against India, which starts in Guwahati on Saturday.

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma provided an update on the pacer, who also missed the first Test in Kolkata, which the visitors won by 30 runs. “Kagiso has been ruled out of the second Test,” Bavuma stated.

Bavuma went on to say that the Guwahati track appeared to be a classic sub-continental wicket, which helps slow bowlers after a few days of batting.

“This wicket looks a lot fresher and will be more consistent in terms of variability compared to Kolkata. We will have another look in the morning and decide on Kagiso’s replacement,” the skipper opined.

“This is a typical sub-continental wicket with the first two days good for batting before spinners come into play.”

The pitch at the Barsapara Stadium is unfamiliar to both teams as Guwahati is hosting a Test match for the first time.
