India won the five-match T20 International series against Australia 2-1 after rain in Brisbane forced the cancellation of the fifth and final game on Saturday.
Asked to bat first, India openers Abhishek Sharma (23 not out off 13 balls) and Shubman Gill (29 not out off 16 balls), got off to a blazing start.
Australia failed to take advantage of their early opportunities to dismiss the dangerous Abhishek.
Glenn Maxwell dropped a sitter when the left-hander mishandled a shot in the first over and then Ben Dwarshuis spilled a regulation catch in the fourth over when Abhishek was on 11.
Abhishek delighted the Indian fans with a strong flat six over mid-wicket three balls later.
Gill, on the other hand, showed a particular fondness for Dwarshuis, hitting three boundaries off the left-arm pacer in the third over to maintain India’s brisk start.
India was cruising at 52/0 in 4.5 overs when lightning interrupted play. The match had to be called off shortly after the Gabba was battered by a torrential downpour.
The first match of the series was also washed out, while Australia won the second Twenty20 International by 4 wickets.
But India recovered well, winning the third and fourth games by 5 wickets and 48 runs, respectively.
The preceding ODI series had been won by Australia 2-1.
