ILT20 auction shock: Ravichandran Ashwin finds no takers

Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin went unsold at the ILT20 auction in Dubai. The only player with a six-figure base price of USD 120,000, Ashwin was not part of the accelerated round either, though he could still be picked later as a wildcard signing.

Ashwin had entered the UAE-based league after retiring from the Indian Premier League (IPL), a move that made him eligible for overseas franchise cricket.

Ashwin had committed to being available for the whole ILT20 season.

The 39-year-old became the first well-known Indian cricketer to play in the Big Bash League when he joined with the Sydney Thunder last week.

In November, he is scheduled to play for Team India in the Hong Kong Sixes competition. Earlier in the year, the great off-spinner had bid adieu to international cricket halfway through India’s tour of Australia.

Akshay Wakhare, a former Vidarbha off-spinner and Ranji Trophy winner, was acquired by the Dubai Capitals at the auction, while Abu Dhabi Knight Riders acquired Unmukt Chand, the captain of the Under-19 World Cup winning team, who is currently playing for the USA.
