According to the most recent update on Wednesday, December 31, Jasprit Bumrah’s position at the top of the ICC Rankings for Test bowlers is still being threatened by Australia pacer Mitchell Starc and Pakistan spinner Noman Ali.
With 879 rating points, Bumrah is still at the top, but the difference between him and the second place is only 36. With 843 rating points between them, Starc and Ali are currently tied for second place. Pat Cummins, who had been in second place following his heroics in the Adelaide Test, fell to fourth place after missing the Ashes series’ fourth game. Cummins has accumulated 841 rating points. With 836 rating points, Matt Henry of New Zealand completes the top five.
During the current Ashes series, Starc has been in incredible form, taking 26 wickets at an average of 17.42 in four games. In 2025, Ali had an incredible run for Pakistan, averaging 17.5 while taking 30 Test wickets in four games.
Josh Tongue of England, who won Player of the Match in Melbourne with scores of 5/45 and 2/44, jumped 13 spots to 30th position in the standings.
Harry Brook moved up three positions to take second place in the batter’s rankings. Brook advanced as a result of his 41 and undefeated 18 in England’s victory over Australia in the MCG Test.
With 846 rating points, Brook trails Joe Root, who holds the top slot with 867. Brook’s leap up the ladder causes Kane Williamson (3rd), Travis Head (4th), and Steve Smith (5th) to slip down a spot.
India Test captain Shubman Gill moved up a notch and entered the top 10 after missing much of the South Africa series at home due to injury. Gill presently has 730 rating points, placing him in 10th place.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is placed seventh with 750 rating points, is the top-ranked Indian batter.
