ICC ODI Rankings: Shubman Gill retains top spot, Kuldeep Yadav slips

According to the most recent ICC ODI bowlers rankings, which were revealed on Wednesday, South African tweaker Kehsav Maharaj has regained the top spot, while Team India wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has fallen to third place.

After assisting his team in defeating Australia by 98 runs in the opening ODI of their three-match series in Cairns, Maharaj reclaimed the top spot.

After taking five for 33, the 35-year-old left-arm spinner—who was chosen Player of the Match— overtook Kuldeep and Maheesh Theekshana of Sri Lanka to take the top slot, which he had temporarily occupied in November and December 2023.

Ravindra Jadeja is the only bowler from India to rank in the top 10 of the most recent rankings, besides Kuldeep.

Since winning the Champions Trophy, the Indian team has not played in an ODI match.

West Indies pacer Jayden Seales advanced 15 spots to 18th place in the bowling rankings after his incredible six-for-18 performance in the last game of their three-match series against Pakistan.

Other players to rise in the rankings are West Indies off-spinner Roston Chase (up five spots to 58th) and Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed (up 15 spots to joint-39th).

Shubman Gill remains at the top of the men’s batting rankings with 784 points, followed by Shreyas Iyer, another Indian in the top 10, in sixth place.

After scoring 120 not out in the final ODI against Pakistan, West Indies captain Shai Hope moved up two spots to ninth rank. The other players who advanced were Mitchell Marsh (up six spots to 48th), Aiden Markram (up four places to 21st), and Temba Bavuma (up five places to 23rd).

With captain Suryakumar Yadav in sixth place and Yashasvi Jaiswal in tenth, India’s Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma continued to hold the top two spots in the men’s T20I rankings.

Dewald Brevis of South Africa continues to rise, moving up nine spots to 12th place, while Australians Marsh and Glenn Maxwell have moved up four and ten spots, respectively, to 25th and 30th place.

Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada of South Africa rose from 44th to 37th place in the T20I bowling rankings, while seamers Nathan Ellis of Australia (up three spots to ninth position) and Josh Hazlewood (up two spots to 18th) both saw notable improvements.
