Shubman Gill may have taken over as captain, but Rohit Sharma isn’t quite ready to bow out without a bang. Having trained hard for a week at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, the “Hitman” is preparing for one more iconic performance in blue.
In order to get ready for India’s forthcoming ODI series in Australia, Rohit trained diligently for almost a week at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru last month, according to a RevSportz report. With focus on tackling the pace and bounce of Australian wickets, Rohit was quietly working behind the scenes while the cricket community was busy analyzing the India-Pakistan Asia Cup drama.
“His practice involved two hours of batting against tall fast bowlers — he had specifically requested for the same. There were days when he had two sessions, which he would ask to be extended even when the staff informed him that the scheduled time was up,” the report stated.
The 37-year-old added throwdown practice and shorter workouts to his hitting exercises. To help replicate Australian conditions, about ten bowlers and several throwdown experts were brought in.
Rohit made his last appearance for the country in March 2025, when he and Virat Kohli were instrumental in India’s Champions Trophy victory. Both have not played international cricket since, with the exception of their IPL appearances earlier this year.
Rohit and Kohli will now make their much anticipated comebacks as India gets ready for the three-match ODI series in Australia, which begins in Perth on October 19.
