According to Rohit Sharma, who led India to the T20 World Cup victory last year, Team India’s victory in the tournament’s first edition in 2007 really boosted their confidence.
India defeated Pakistan by 5 runs in an exciting final in Johannesburg in 2007 to win their first-ever T20 World Cup.
Rohit scored 88 runs in three games, including a vital unbeaten 50 against South Africa and a fiery 30 off 16 balls in the final against Pakistan, which helped India win the 2007 T20 World Cup.
“I was in my first year with the team during the 2007 T20 World Cup, and I was just 20. After winning that trophy, we felt we would continue our winning ways,” Rohit Sharma said on JioHotstar.
Former batter Sanjay Manjrekar praised Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s impact as India captain, highlighting his role in guiding the team to two World Cup titles and a Champions Trophy.
Thanks to his calm and composed leadership and game-changing decisions, which won him the moniker “Captain Cool” and a spot in the ICC Hall of Fame, Dhoni is still the only captain to win all three major ICC white-ball trophies: the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
Dhoni won Player of the Match in the 2011 ODI World Cup final against Sri Lanka and was India’s second-highest run scorer in the 2007 T20 World Cup.
“Dhoni’s greatness was that on the big stage, he just held his nerve better than the opposing captain,” Manjrekar said.
