According to media reports on Tuesday, former Australian hitter David Warner has been charged with drunk driving.
According to a report on news.com.au, the former Australian cricketer underwent a breathalyzer test on Sunday night in Maroubra, Sydney, and blew twice the legal limit.
Warner was stopped and parked before he reached for the test, according to NSW Police. Officers, however, went up to him and gave him a breathalyzer test, which came up positive.
The statement went on to say that after a second test reportedly yielded a value of 0.104, the 39-year-old was detained and brought to the Maroubra Police Station.
“About 5:30 pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra,” the police statement said.
“A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park. Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing, which returned a positive result.”
“He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station, where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104. The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for driving with a middle-range PCA to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, 7 May 2026,” the statement added.
Warner announced his retirement from international cricket on June 24, 2024, after Australia’s elimination from the 2024 T20 World Cup.
In the Super 8 stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup, the former Australian opener played his last international match against India. This came after he had already retired from ODI cricket right after the 2023 ODI World Cup and from Test cricket in January 2024.
