CSK Academy hosts West Indies women for intensive two-week camp

As part of Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) ongoing India development initiative, 15 of the most talented West Indian women cricket players have gathered at the Chennai Super Kings Academy in Chennai for a specialized training session, overseen by head coach Merissa Aguilleira.

In addition to Aguilleira, the team is led by team manager Yasmine St. Ange and assistant coaches Ryan Hinds and Tremayne Smartt.

For the two-week program, which runs from August 13 to August 30, the contingent departed Barbados for India on August 12.

With an emphasis on technical improvement, mental training, and cultural adjustment, the players will participate in a number of skill-specific seminars and practice matches during this time to enhance their performance against spin in foreign settings.

The players will also take advantage of Chennai’s famous facilities and work with the same elite coaching staff, including Academy Director Sriram Krishnamurthy and his team of experts, who oversaw the men’s training camp last December.

“Following the tremendous success of our male players’ training camp in December, we are proud to now extend this opportunity to our most promising female cricketers,” Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe said in a release.

“The Super Kings Academy in Chennai offers a world-class training environment that allows our players to experience cricket in a different part of the world.”

Ashmini Munisar, Zaida James, Djenaba Joseph, Jahzara Claxton, Jannillea Glasgow, Realeanna Grimmond, Trishan Holder, Mandy Mangru, and Nerissa Crafton are among the 15 member team’s senior internationals.

West Indies Under-19 players Naijanni Cumberbatch, Niya Latchman, Samara Ramnath, Shunelle Sawh, Steffie Soogrim, and Selena Ross are also included in the team.
