Chennai Super Kings confirm MS Dhoni will play IPL 2026, end retirement buzz

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s participation in the 2026 Indian Premier League has been confirmed by the Chennai Super Kings, ending rumors over the veteran cricketer’s future.

“MS has told us that he will be available for the next season,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Cricbuzz.

Viswanathan reportedly stated that Dhoni is still heavily involved in the team’s preparations for the next season.

Ahead of the November 15 retention deadline, Dhoni will participate in the team’s retention and trade talks next week, that will also include Viswanathan, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and coach Stephen Fleming.

In the absence of regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, the 44-year-old led CSK last season, but the five-time winners had a dismal campaign and ended up at the bottom of the standings.

CSK won five IPL titles under Dhoni’s leadership (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023). If he plays in the upcoming season, it would be his 19th IPL season overall and his 17th with CSK.
