Breaking News: Major setback for England: Chris Woakes ruled out of final Test

The England Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Friday that all-rounder Chris Woakes will miss the rest of the fifth and final Test match against India due to a shoulder injury he sustained while fielding.

England lead the five-match series 2-1, as India reached 204 for 6 at stumps on Day 1 of the final Test at The Oval on Thursday.

When Woakes dived to try to a long-range boundary by Karun Nair, he fell severely and sustained the injury.

“England seamer Chris Woakes will continue to be monitored throughout the remainder of the Rothesay Fifth Test at The Kia Oval, following a left shoulder injury sustained on day one of the match against India,” ECB said in a statement.

“At this stage, the injury has ruled him out of any further participation in the Test.

“A further assessment will be conducted at the conclusion of the series.”

Woakes knocked out India opener KL Rahul for his lone wicket of the day after bowling 14 overs and giving up 46 runs on Thursday.

All-rounder and captain Ben Stokes is already out for England because of a shoulder injury.
