The Indian men’s cricket team will play a three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting on January 11. India’s team for the three 50-over games scheduled for January 11 in Vadodara, January 14 in Rajkot, and January 18 in Indore has not yet been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The head of the senior men’s selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, will announce India’s team for the home series on Saturday, January 3, according to a report in the Times of India on Wednesday.
“The national selection committee, headed by (former India pacer) Ajit Agarkar, will hold an online meeting on Jan 3 to pick the squad,” the TOI report quoted a BCCI source as saying.
Under KL Rahul’s captaincy, India won the first and third games of their most recent ODI series against South Africa during the first week of December 2025. However, Shubman Gill is set to lead Team India in the forthcoming series against New Zealand.
On October 4, 2025, Gill was named the new captain of India’s ODI squad. However, he was unable to play in the ODI series against South Africa because of a neck injury he sustained on Day 2 of the first India-South Africa Test, which took place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
After recovering from his neck injury, Gill played three Twenty20 Internationals against South Africa last month. He is now scheduled to rejoin the ODI squad.
For the ODI series against the Black Caps, the BCCI selectors have reportedly decided to rest fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. In addition to playing in the T20I series against South Africa, Bumrah and Pandya are included in India’s squads for the T20 World Cup 2026 and five T20Is against New Zealand.
India’s ODI team’s vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer, is now sidelined by an injury he sustained while fielding against Australia in Sydney on October 25.
Iyer was supposed to return for the New Zealand ODIs, his comeback has reportedly been postponed. He will spend an additional week recovering at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
