According to former Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, the International Cricket Council (ICC) would become “unnecessary” if it didn’t address the Indian Cricket Board’s (BCCI) existing “dominance” in its operations.
According to a PTI report, Ajmal said that the ICC should cease operations if it is unable to make “unbiased and principled decisions in the overall interest of world cricket”.
“If the ICC can’t enforce its decisions on the Indian board then its very existence is unnecessary,” PTI quoted Ajmal as saying.
Most Test-playing countries, said to Ajmal, shared this opinion but would not publicly express it. He claimed that the ICC’s “helplessness” is exemplified by its acceptance of India’s unwillingness to participate in international competitions in Pakistan.
“There is no logical reason for India not to play in Pakistan but the ICC is helpless because it is dominated by Indians now,” he alleged.
Due to security concerns and the Indian government’s refusal to authorize bilateral sports between the two nations, India has refused to visit Pakistan. As a result, only neutral sites are used for India-Pakistan cricket, which was formerly exclusive to ICC white-ball matches.
After the terror assault in Pahalgam last year, which was followed by a brief military confrontation, India-Pakistan relations reached an all-time low. Jay Shah, a former secretary of the BCCI, is currently in charge of the ICC.
