Asia Cup: Litton Das to lead Bangladesh, Nurul Hasan earns comeback

For the forthcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the Bangladeshi selectors on Friday called up wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan to their 16-man team, which is led by Litton Das.

Hasan, 31, last participated in a Twenty20 International three years ago, at the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)-announced team will also play in a three-game Twenty20 International series against the Netherlands before the Asia Cup.

Saif Hasan, who last played for Bangladesh in the 2023 Asian Games, is also returning to the national T20I squad after a one-and-a-half-year absence, joining Hasan, who returned on the strength of his outstanding domestic cricket performance.

The eight-team competition, which takes place from September 9–28, is an important part in Bangladesh’s preparation for the T20 World Cup the following year.

Group A includes India, Pakistan, Oman, and the host United Arab Emirates, while Group B includes Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka.

Das will now want to carry on in the multilateral event after leading Bangladesh to their first T20I series victory against Sri Lanka and a series victory over Pakistan at home in July.

It is anticipated that seasoned activists like Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman will provide him with strong support.

Soumya Sarkar, Tanvir Islam, and Hasan Mahmud were added as reserves, but Mehidy Hassan Miraz, who was a member of the previous T20I squad, was left out of the squad.

Additionally, previous T20I captain Najmul Hossain was not included.

On August 30, Bangladesh will play the Netherlands in the first of three Twenty20 Internationals in Sylhet.
